Nearly a fairway to heaven
The emphasis here is on surreal fun, not the next Tiger Woods trainer. So, you will be tasering spiders out to catch your golf balls and at some point into the title, you will find yourself dressed head to toe as a putting pirate. Such is the format. And of course, golf games work rather well with the Wii's remote mechanic making for a little front room workout at the same time of trying for that elusive hole in one. Mini Golf sets up nine courses each with three very different types of holes; Adventure, Challenge and Trick. For the Adventure shot, you'll venture into mini game territories - where tress and plants could come alive as pinball ricochets for your shot. Challenge holes are the more standard ones while the Trick is an all or nothing hole-in-one opportunity. All good clean fun, particularly when against up to four others as you amass points and credits to upgrade your golfing with all manner of purchasable bling form the Pro shop and clubhouse or simply to gloat over your gaming chums. Once you've kitted yourself out in new threads, you'll be able to go off-course to unlock other areas and mini games. Single player has you battling against Barker, the title's golfing host. What's clear from the outset is that you're not going to come away form all this with an improved par out in the real world. This is cartoon, arcade fun with all the usual mini golf tricks of bumpers and traps and pitfalls for your balls and at most, it's perfect for the console and best enjoyed in company.
