Developed by acclaimed developer Digital Extremes, co-creators behind the award-winning Unreal franchise, Dark Sector is a new and original action-thriller that offers players a dark, gritty experience packed with fast action, incredible superpowers and, dare we say it, an engaging story.

In a nutshell, gamers play an elite black-ops agent sent on a dangerous assassination mission. Things go wrong and our anti-hero Hayden Tenno gets attacked by unknown forces and then wakes up with superhuman abilities that gradually get stronger and stronger as the game progresses.

Much of the combat centres on the use of a bladed disc called The Glaive. It can be thrown at enemies with brutal results, combined with gameworld elements such as fire and electricity and even turn into a torch when the environment gets too dark for normal vision. If you want to behead a hiding enemy you can pull up the aiming reticule and aim exactly for the neck for gruesome results. Fire The Glaive into a burning wreck in order to use the fire element to then set the enemy on fire! Talk about handy!

The gameplay is often reminiscent of Gears of War. Cover is key in this game and you'll be minded to keep Hayden behind a rock or peering from a pillar bas often as possible - the enemy AI is often relentless and unforgiving.

Chuck in a couple of decent multiplayer modes (including our fave 5 vs 5 team games) and you're served with a slick, uncompromising sci-fi action game that pulls no punches and delivers an engrossing 8-10hrs worth of Campaign play. Top drawer stuff.
