Sega scores an ace!

How good is Sega Superstar Tennis? Well, in a nut-shell it made us cancel a night down the pub and instead arrange the gathering at home - that's how good it is. A videogame that can match, indeed better the bonhomie and revelry of a decent British pub? Prices north of 3 GBP a pint doesn't help but let's not take anything away from Sega Superstar Tennis - hands down some of the most fun we've had playing a videogame version of tennis.

There's over 15 playable Sega characters to get to grips with including Sonic the Hedgehog, AiAi from Super Monkeyball fame, Ulala of Space Channel 5 and Amigo from Samba De Amigo.

In addition to their own unique attributes, each character comes equipped with their own superstar tennis skills, putting a whole new spin on each match played. Each character also has their own backdrop whether it's a space age area from Space Channel 5 or a salsa-infused court from Samba De Amigo.

On top of that little lot there's a whole plethora of mini games that make the game much more than a simple tennis title. Collect rings with Sonic the Hedgehog, bash zombies in a House of the Dead homage, smash monkey balls through giant rings in the Monkey Ball Level. There's more unlockables than an oversized chastity belt and the game is all the better for it as you never get bored of trying to see something new.

The pure fun of being able to play co-op in a doubles game with your favourite Sega characters is hard to beat. When combined with a control system that is forgiving to beginners but can be tricky to master, the title becomes a match winner.

Sega Superstars Tennis - game, set and a very enjoyable match.
