There's no doom and gloom with this classy arcade RPG
Finally, Circle of Doom sees the light of day and puts you in full control of the combat -emphasising the action rather than the strategy of the game's forerunner. You'll have to pit your tactical wits into randomly generated dungeon scenarios against three types of bad guy monsters; ranged, melee and what can only be described as crawlers; enemies that leech their way along the walls and ceilings of the dungeons. To dispatch a myriad of fantastical beasts (some of the best being the giant scorpions who have a nasty range of attack), you'll have a host of short and ranged weapons, from axes and clubs to bows and magic. Each weapon can also be tweaked using some of your SP (skill point) so that for example, an axe can be given a flight tweak allowing for greater throwing accuracy over distance. While the axe is in mid-flight, before it returns boomerang-style, you can wield your secondary weapon to get in close and the two-handed sword attacks and the crossbow also prove satisfyingly deadly once you've mastered them. By upgrading and tweaking your weapons you'll have access to over 60 functions and special move combos. Add the random level generator and you'll need to keep your wits about you whether it's in a claustrophobic, dimly lit dungeon, a fantastical palace or an open-air environment, it's a frantic pace that doesn't let up as the monsters swarm. The main plot details and mission tasks are given to your chosen character (out of six available at the start) while they sleep. The dream world is the key to understanding Kingdom of Doom and releases fragments of the overall story only slowly of story. It gives you a time to rest and interact in this dreamworld, allowing a little breather before all the killing starts again. It's a solid, multi-levelled gameplay RPG with all the geeky fighting and tactical tweaks you could wish for.
