Much more than Far Cry mark II.

Trust the North Koreans to cock up a situation. As soon as an alien asteroid crashes in their country they seal up the borders in order to harvest the technology for themselves. When it bursts open revealing a nasty surprise in terms of the aliens that control it and their nasty intentions to dominant earth, it's down to you and your crack team of Delta soldiers to sort the mess out.

Being Crytek-developed, the game gives you a gorgeous nano-suit, able to adapt with strength, speed, armour and stealth functions. You'll need every bit of it as you negotiate Far Cry-esque forests, the inside of military hardware such as aircraft carriers and ultimately into the heart of North Korea and the bad ass alien HQ.

Cloaking, shooting, steering, climbing and wrestling with Korean snipers as well as alien commanders is all part of this shooter's excellent fun but it's the snow-capped levels that present the best (and scariest) challenge. As you near the alien mother ship, the icy and barren mountainside levels have a real urgent atmosphere about them. There's a creepy, washed out granite and snow feel, and the glimpsed sight of these mechanical-looking aliens scurrying over the rock towards you really sets your nerves on edge. As you get closer to the game's goal, up goes the fear factor until you're dizzyingly fighting in the mother ship's zero-g atmosphere. It's gloves off here as the fighting reaches its peak.

This is a superb shooter, with a fantastic engine powering some immediate and sci-fi worthy story. It's one to save up for.
