Get ready to rock - one more time
If you haven't already had enough chance to rock out with the likes of Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Ultimate Band and countless other music based rhythm games, you now also have the opportunity to get to grips with Rock Revolution. The latest music game forthcoming from Konami, a company that brought us DanceDanceRevolution, Karaoke Revolution, Beatmania and Guitar Freaks is now all set to bring us a title the focuses more on the art of rocking out in a band. Gamers can release their inner rock star or allow their friends the privilege of picking up an axe or pounding the skins through 40 rock and roll tracks. If playing covers doesn't appeal then unleash your creative juices in the Jam Mode where you can create your own music in a state of the art multi-track studio! This is the musical revolution the world has been waiting for! Well, that's what Konami thinks anyway. From what we've seen so far, the gameplay is very similar to the GH games. Multi-coloured spheres, each representing a note, scroll down the screen and using your controller players hit them in sequence along with the music. Where this game differs slightly is in the drumming department and the challenges that players must progress through. Without giving too much away before we finally get our hands on the retail version, drums play a much more central role - with the kick drum effect playing specials prominence. Equally the chance to play through a structured Career mode that offers unique challenges where players must record original compositions rather than simply follow the typical 'Simon say's' gameplay of most other rhythm-based games offers a twist on the norm. But with the glut of music games on the market will Rock Revolution be case of 'me too' rather than 'me first'? We'll have to wait for the official release to find out.
