Defiant stance from motion sensor pioneer plus Rogue Warrior Xbox 360 screens
In the face of stiff competition from both Sony and Microsoft's new motion-based controllers, Nintendo's iconic developer Shigeru Miyamoto has publicly said he's not worried at all by the rivalling technology.
In an interview with BBC news, Miyamoto commented: "The fact that both of those companies are looking at getting the gamer off the couch, taking advantage of motion control, and getting them to control the game by moving their body shows that they have looked at what we have done with Wii. And now they are moving in the same direction. To that end we are very flattered," he said.
"What we're really focused on at this point is taking all the experience we gained over the past five years and applying that in a way that creates extremely deep game play experiences that takes advantage of motion control," said Mr Miyamoto.
"Based on the announcements we've seen here from Microsoft and Sony they are still in the initial stages and are trying to create experiences that at this point don't seem like they have the type of depth that we're able to provide with Wii Motion Plus."
Nintendo had less in the way of new hardware announcements at E3, the largest games show in the world. With the exception of further Wii MotionPlus demonstrations (a new Wii handheld accessory that adds enhanced accuracy, due to be released later this month), there was little in the way of hardware innovation. Will this deliver a perfect opportunity for Microsoft and Sony to catch up with the phenomenal success of the Wii's motion based gameplay? Nintendo certainly doesn't think so.
From motion-based battles to stealth Seal activity. We've got some brand new screens from the forthcoming Rogue Warrior game. Gamers play as "Demo Dick" Marcinko, sent on a clandestine operation to disrupt a suspected North Korean ballistic missile program. A little too close to real life? Decide for yourself when the game is released on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in the autumn.
