EA announces Dante's Inferno, Ladbrokes jump on the CoD betting bandwagon and SuperCar Challenge PS3 screens
EA has announced that EA Redwood Shores, the studio behind hit horror game Dead Space, is making Dante's Inferno - a third-person action adventure adaptation of the medieval epic poem The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. The dark fiction gave birth to the Tuscan Italian dialect and is widely considered to have defined the western world's contemporary conception of hell and purgatory. The poem tells the tale of Dante who journeys through the twisted, menacing nine circles of hell in pursuit of his beloved Beatrice. "The time is right for the world of interactive entertainment to adapt this literary masterpiece, and to re-introduce Dante to an audience that, until now, may have been unfamiliar with the remarkable details of this great work of art," said Jonathan Knight, executive producer for Dante's Inferno. "It's the perfect opportunity to fuse great gameplay with great story." So far the veteran publisher remains tight-lipped on both release dates and available formats - but an educated guess of mid 2009 on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC probably wouldn't be a long shot. And on the subject of odds, Ladbrokes has followed the example of online bookmaker Paddy Power and is backing Call of Duty World at War as the Xmas number one videogame with odds of 1/3. FIFA 09 is second favourite at 6/1 with Mario Kart Wii in third place at 7/1. For those that fancy a flutter Wii Fit at a bargain 16/1 looks like a fair bet to us - as long as Nintendo can keep stock on the High Street. Finally, we round off this bulletin with some brand new screens of the forthcoming SuperCar Challenge from System 3. This PS3 exclusive game allows gamers to get behind the virtual wheel of Aston Martin DB9, the Lamborghini Murcielago RGT, the McLaren F1 and about 35 other top-rated cars! A release is scheduled for Spring 2009.
