EA hires popular female vocalist to grab girl gamers, Mario Kart Wii stays in pole position and Prince of Persia PS3 screens

Never let it be said that the world's largest publisher misses a trick when it comes to a valuable marketing opportunity. Ever wondered how to get girls into gaming? Design a singing title aimed squarely at the target demographic and get an accessible pop star to front the PR campaign. Natasha Bedingfield was today unveiled as the featured spokesperson of Boogie SuperStar, the upcoming Wii title from the Casual Entertainment Label of Electronic Arts. Bedingfield lends three songs to the Boogie SuperStar soundtrack, also announced today, which features a total of nearly 40 hit singles made famous by the likes of Alicia Keys, Fergie and Leona Lewis.

Bedingfield, who has topped the charts with number one singles and albums in both the U.S. and the U.K., has joined forces with EA to promote the game, which allows girls to perform their favourite Bedingfield songs including her current single Angel, Love Like This, and the title track from her new album Pocketful of Sunshine.

"Boogie SuperStar brings to life all the fun and excitement of performing," said Bedingfield. "Being on stage is such a thrill and it's great to be a part of an EA video game that lets girls experience how much fun it is to express themselves and explore their own creativity by performing." Will Boogie Superstar finally get girls into gaming? Let's hope for EA's sake the Bedingfield PR push hits the right note.

Meanwhile, chartland reflects the draught in new game releases with the ol' faithful that is Mario Kart firmly holding onto the number one spot in the all-format Top 40. Wii Fit sits in second place with Sega's Beijing 2008 Olympic effort picking up the bronze medal.

From ageing chart entries to brand new cutting edge screens of the latest platform adventure that is Prince of Persia - forthcoming for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC courtesy of French publishing powerhouse Ubisoft. Release dates are still shrouded in secrecy, but gossip suggests November maybe the month for the Prince to finally debut on next-gen consoles.
