Next-gen titles get the nod for autumn launch, Codemasters announces Grid patch and Spore screens
Ubisoft has announced that both the forthcoming Hawx and Soul Calibur titles will be released in just a few months. Hawx is the latest Tom Clancy title - but this time rather than stealth squad play you take to the skies as the pilot of one of 60 aircraft. Think dogfights through populated cities whilst trying to lock onto a rapidly moving dot and you're half way there. We hear there's a full co-op mode too with support for up to four players. A release is scheduled for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in September.
Meanwhile, Soul Calibur Legends, dated for Aug 29, is a Wii-exclusive title and comes out approximately one month after the PS3 and Xbox 360 version. The Wii Remote and Nunchuk are your weapons of choice as you perform your moves and combos using orchestrated slashes and movements. Sounds like fun!
One thing that isn't too much fun is continued complaints from gamers who have been suffering annoying technical glitches whilst playing the otherwise fantastic Race Driver: Grid game from Codemasters. Fortunately the good folk at Codies are already onto the problem (which seems to happen exclusively on the Xbox 360 build).
A spokesperson released the following statement: "We're close to getting to the root of the problem and we will be including a fix and a backup workaround option (just in case) in our forthcoming patch due within the next few weeks or sooner. We think the issue is due to specific drive hardware, possibly with bad blocks/sectors. The best temporary measure is to copy your gamertag to a mem card, remove the hard drive and run the game that way. Replays and caching will be disabled, though instant replay will still work as this caches to memory."
Finally feast your eyes on some brand new and exclusive Spore screens. The new Will Wright game (the god-like genius who created The Sims) is an 'evolution sim' where you progress from single cell organisms all the way up the food chain. The screenshots today are from the newly announced Tribal stage. A PC release is due in early September.
