Rockstar boss: I like violence

Rockstar boss: I like violence
Rockstar boss: I like violence

Tuesday 6th May 2008 - 17:30

No apologies in revealing interview with co-founder, Prototype delayed until 2009 and Operation Darkness Xbox 360 screens

Rockstar just can't stay out of the headlines at the moment. Not only is the legendary development studio breaking all sales records with GTA IV, the boss has gone on-record of a different kind to defend his taste in games.

Speaking to New York Entertainment magazine, Dan Houser, the co-founder of Rockstar said: "If you don't like any violent content in your entertainment, then I apologise because I do. And I've unfortunately been exposed to it my entire life. I agree that the world would be a greater place if all of the guns and all of the bombs disappeared, but that certainly is not in the agenda.'

Continuing on his defiant theme he argued:"But if we don't like these games because they've got content that we're happy to see in movies and TV shows, then what you're saying is you don't like the medium because we don't have a George Clooney type sticking his face in front of the camera. There is nothing in the game you would not see in a TV show, or a movie a hundred times over, so I don't understand what the conversation is about. We set out to make games that felt like they could culturally exist alongside the movies we were watching and the books we were reading, and hopefully we're getting close to those goals."

Meanwhile, one set of goals that have been pushed all the way back to 2009 is the proposed launch day for Prototype. The sci-fi action adventure from Sierra was all set to debut this summer but now, Sierra has confirmed this hotly anticipated title won't see the light of day until 2009. If you're not familiar with Protoype think free-roaming open ended action and place it all slap in the middle of a densely populated New York City and you're only half way there. The 'hero' is a genetically modified shape shifter that can assume the skills and abilities of its victims. We're dreaming up a match-winning cocktail of GTA IV mixed with Invasion of the Body Snatchers. But either way, it's going to remain a dream for a good 12 months yet, unfortunately.
