GTA IV hits the streets!

GTA IV hits the streets!
GTA IV hits the streets!

Midnight opening for biggest game of the year, Wii Fit storms the charts and Facebreaker Xbox 360 screens

The moment has finally arrived! GTA IV, Rockstar's next-gen crime caper for the PS3 and Xbox 360 went on sales from 12:01am today. Videogames stores across the land have reported huge queues as eager gamers have waited patiently to either pick up pre-orders or scramble for a few of the shelf-stocked copies.

The game is even tipped to break the opening week sales figures of Halo 3 and pull in up to $400m (200m GBP). But by all accounts, early reviews have shown that the title truly lives up to its hype. The New York Times said it delivered a "new level of depth for an interactive entertainment experience", whilst other specialist gamer sites are already calling it game of the year! Expect a full review once we've played through enough to give our honest opinion - but so far, so very, very good.

The charts seem somewhat irrelevant this week, what with the foregone conclusion of what game will be top next week. But for what it's worth Wii Fit has stormed the all-format top 40 be securing the top spot on its first week's outing. Trade paper MCV estimates that the fitness game, was bought by roughly one in 10 Wii console owners in its first two days on the market notching up approximately 16 million GBP in sales. Mario Kart Wii takes second spot with Sonic and Mario at The Olympic Games clutching the bronze medal.

To round off we have a flurry of new wonkey nosed shots of Facebreaker, a forthcoming boxing game from the team behind the classic Fight Night Round 3 game. This bruising next-gen title is all set for a summer release on Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 courtesy of EA.
