Ex-Xbox 360 boss in surprise revelation, Xbox 360 in sales surge plus Super Smash Bros Brawl Wii screens
Wii owners rejoice, there's a tonne of major sporting titles coming from EA - and the boss of EA Sports has said so himself. Even if he isn't naming names just yet.
"I've seen speculation the past few days about the comments we've made recently about new IP coming this year from EA Sports," Ex Xbox 360 boss Peter Moore wrote in his blog.
"I can tell you we now have eight titles in development for the Wii, testament both to the global impact of that console currently in the global marketplace, as well as to our desire to attract more consumers to experience EA Sports games, no matter their experience playing games nor their prowess with a traditional controller."
Eight new titles dedicated to one platform from the biggest sporting label in the business is just about the biggest endorsement a console can get. As frustrating as a lack of names are, we can safely assume that Facebreaker, the new boxing game by the guys who developed the boxing benchmark that is Fight Night Round 3, is amongst them. The rest we'll just to have to wait and see - or gossip and speculate.
Meanwhile, following our hot off the press news last week that the Xbox 360 was about to receive a major price cut, word reaches us that Xbox 360 sales have risen sharply. Trade paper MCV reports that the rise came in a period where other hardware struggled - with only PS3 enjoying a slight sales rise of six per cent. It just goes to show that the UK gamer is wanting to watch the pennies before taking the next-gen plunge. Will Sony now make the price cut that analysts are crying out for them to do? Our money is on probably not.
To round off the mid-week bulletin we have a clutch of exclusive new screens from what will undoubtedly be one the hottest Wii games of the year. Super Smash Bros Brawl. Gamers will for the first time be able to complete in online multiplayer battles for up to four players. The title will also contain an all-new adventure mode called Super Smash Bros. Brawl: The Subspace Emissary, where players can select their favourite character before embarking on an adventure to conquer giant bosses from the Nintendo Universe.
