Popular RTS makes a return after seven years, Overlord Xbox 360 expansion released and Saints Row 2 PS3 screens
After a seven-year hiatus, Electronic Arts today announced the return of Red Alert, one of the best-selling real-time strategy series. Although no dater has been set we do know the next instalment is destined for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Developed by EA Los Angeles, Red Alert 3 is set to break new ground in the RTS genre, featuring a fully co-operative campaign while bringing back the series' classic, action-oriented gameplay.
"It's been too long." said Chris Corry, executive producer at EALA. "Fans have been waiting for a new Red Alert game for seven years, and we're working hard to ensure its well worth the wait. The team is staying true to the series' roots while adding new elements like a co-operatively played story-driven campaign, an astounding new faction that will shake-up the Red Alert universe as we know it, and units that will help make Red Alert 3 everything our fans have been waiting for. And by bringing naval combat into the heart of the game design, we're transporting that fast, fun and fluid gameplay to the high-seas in ways that you've never seen before."
Meanwhile, fans of Overlord, the wicked action adventure from Codemasters should be thrilled to hear of an expansion that is now ready to download via Xbox Live Marketplace and comprises of one free and two premium download packs; the premium packs are available for 800 and 400 Microsoft Points respectively.
Firstly, to the free stuff. There's a free downloadable multiplayer content pack that enables split screen play on all existing multiplayer maps, Plus adds a new 'Rocky Race' multiplayer map. This free content enables players to go head to head on all of the game's original multiplayer maps in a new split screen mode. Then Rocky Race map involves a pair of Overlords working cooperatively to survive the onslaught of an arch rock giant on the rampage.
The Raising Hell package, which costs a not-inconsiderable 800 Microsoft Points, provides a single player expansion pack with a host of new levels and challenges to play through. The Challenge Pace, which costs a more reasonable 400 points is for multiplayer specialists with seen new maps and a cranked up difficulty feature.
