Huge promotion as Xbox Live turns 5, GTA IV remains on track after-all and High Velocity Bowling PS3 screens
Today Microsoft celebrates the fifth anniversary of Xbox Live, the online gaming network that allows Xbox and Xbox 360 gamers the chance to play against other players pretty much anywhere in the world - well 26 countries to be precise. As a gesture of thanks to the community, all eight-million members will have the opportunity to download a free Xbox Live Arcade game, between 08:01 a.m. on 15 November 15 and 7:59 a.m. on 17 November. In addition to this, every active Gold member who joined the service at launch will receive 500 MS Points for free. But that's not all! Starting on 4 December, all Xbox Live members will receive a free system update with a host of new features and enhancements. Included in this update will be the launch of the "Xbox Originals," which, for the first time ever, will enable consumers to download and own full Xbox games such as Halo Psychonauts, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge and Fable among others directly to their Xbox 360. No disc is necessary - but Microsoft Points are needed, with each title coming in at 1200 points per game. Although if you're one of the lucky members who joined when the service started you'll be benefiting from free 500 points anyway! Microsoft is expected to roll out more games and build a growing catalogue of online titles as the scheme progresses. Meanwhile fans of crime capers can breathe a huge sigh of relief as apparently GTA IV, the best selling free roaming action adventure, is still coming out early next year after-all. Regular readers may remember that we reported last week on the head of publisher Take 2 commenting that the game would not be released until the developer was 'utterly convinced' that it was ready. As the game is already plagued by delays this understandably sent gamers literally up in arms. Well, worry not. For now Take 2 Chairman Strauss Zelnick has said that that game will ship by the end of April next year as previously stated. In a recent interview with gamespot.com he commented: "I wasn't intending to be newsworthy. When asked about the release date, I confirmed the previous release date we'd given, which is our second fiscal quarter. That's to say sometime between the beginning of February and the end of April." Finally from the mean streets of San Andreas to the mean alley of your local ten-pin bowling complex as we present the first shots of High Velocity Bowling forthcoming on the PS3. It's a downloadable bowling game that can support up to 4 players and uses the PS3's SixAxis controller to replicate the swinging action required to score a strike! Who needs Call of Duty 4, eh?
