New Xbox 360 racer storms the charts, PSP phone rumours quashed and Stranger PC screens
Corks will be popping over at the Microsoft HQ as Forza Motorsport 2 has stormed the charts and wheel-spinned itself into pole position at the very top of this week's all formats Top 40.
The sparkling new racer that received a well deserved 9/10 from the Tiscali Games review team is typically the highest new entry in this week's chart and also the third fastest selling Xbox 360 game of all time (behind Gears of War and Pro Evolution Soccer 6, fact fans).
This means that Jack Sparrow and his motley crew from the woeful game that is Pirates of the Caribbean drops from the top spot to number three, while Lara's latest Tomb Raiding escapade keeps a firm grip for the second consecutive week. Former number one Spider-Man 3 drops one place to number four.
Meanwhile it seems to be the season for hunting down and quashing rumours. Hot on the heels of the recent news that there was to be no imminent price reduction for the Xbox 360 (contrary to what respected news channel Bloomberg has reported); it is now the turn of Sony to put a halt to the rumour mill.
SCEE CEO David Reeves has gone on the record to deny that a PSP phone is currently in development following a spate of rumours circulating the web late last week. The gossip started after a website incorrectly claimed that a patent registered for a Sony mobile phone included a moveable screen that could turn 90 degrees, offer a widescreen option and features a button layout identical to the PSP. Sounds great doesn't it! But sadly it's not to be.
Speaking to MCV, Reeves commented, "I know the head of Sony Ericsson very well, he has a Walkman phone and a Cybershot phone available, but I know nothing about a PSP phone. I haven't heard anything about it at all - and I would know. They wouldn't develop it without our knowledge." So that's another pipe dream up in a cloud of smoke!
Finally we have a brand new selection of Stranger screens to share with you. The odd-sounding PC sword and sorcery title combines role-playing with real-time strategy and comes from the makers of hit strategy game Sudden Strike. A release is scheduled towards the end of the summer.
