Sony and BT join forces and make big promises, Sin City games announced and Splinter Cell Conviction Xbox 360 screens
The PSP is about become even more of an essential item thanks to BT and Sony making a surprise announcement about joining forces to offer enhanced services. The corporate giants struck a deal to provide PSP users with access to a wide range or wi-fi internet services, including VOIP telephone calls. The deal lasts for four years and will allow PSP owners to make voice calls and send messages from any wi-fi connection, including public BT wi-fi hotspots. But the sexy bit is thanks to the newly released webcam peripheral, video calls will also be a reality. David Reeves president of SCEE was clearly very pleased with himself when he said: "The opportunity to combine our market leading expertise with BT's knowledge in communications opens up many possibilities and we look forward to bringing many exciting communication functions to PSP fans," SCEE president David Reeves said. More details of the BT service will be released at the Leipzig Games Convention in August - we'll be there to learn all the latest news first hand. Meanwhile fans of comic books turned into movies turned into videogames will be able to quickly forget the disappointment of the latest Spider-Man game and instead raise high hopes for Sin City, as games based on the award winning comic book and gorgeously dark film are set for next-gen consoles. "Sin City enjoys a broad and devoted following," said Red Mile's CEO Chester Aldridge. "Its crime noir settings, richly detailed characters, hyper-real action sequences and engaging stories provide an outstanding groundwork for video games Red Mile is enthusiastic about working with Frank Miller to create a franchise that is worthy of this great property." There's no news of proposed release dates yet, but as always, we'll keep you posted. Finally as a treat for the start of the long weekend feast your eyes on the latest Sam Fisher adventure courtesy of Ubisoft and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction - forthcoming on Xbox 360 and PC. Expect another great looking serving of seminal stealth action from the masters of duck and cover gameplay. Little else is known about the title yet - our hero Sam is on the run as a fugitive and no longer has the catalogue of hi-tech gadgets and instead must rely on every day objects that apparently litter the gameworld. Sounds like an episode of classic 80s show MacGyver. A release is scheduled for Christmas 2007.
