Netropolis Players Guide - General Tips

General Netropolis Tips

Guide to General Play:

This part of the guide is designed to mention those parts of the game, that I feel are worth mentioning, that havn't fallen into any of the other sections.

STATS:

The stats page is vitally important for normal game play. It allows you to check on other players, and also to check whether your props are damaged, the security on them and how much money they are making, as well as other useful functions.

You should start to get a feel for the stats page in either towns or cities. In cities especially you will start to realise the value of it, if you try to take land. The left hand column shows the earnings of the companies, and the right hand column shows the location worth for the companies. The right column does not include any worth that is "offshore" - so it is simply the onshore cash of a company, and the worth of the buildings added together.

When deciding who to bomb, you really want to know how much cash they have onshore. If they dont have any land, then this is simply the value shown for that company in the total worth column. If the company does have land, then it gets more complicated. Working out the value of the land that someone has, so as to subtract it from their worth, to get an estimate of how much cash they have onshore, is tricky and improves with experence. A good starting point is to have a look at yout own earnings. See how much you're earning, how much cash you have, and what your total worth is. This will allow you to work out the worth of your properties. Remember however that the type of building you have will affect your building worth, so just because two companies are both making 200k, does not mean that both have the same building worth. Generally speaking the higher value and profit buildings, such as hotels and cinemas, will greatly increase the companies building worth, while lower value buildings (whilst sometimes making the same profit) will not increase it so much. e.g. you could have a hotel making 6k profit, with a worth of 170k, but you could also have 2 renovated offices making that amount with a combined worth of 70k. Both would appear the as the same profit on the stats, but the company with the renovated offices would have to have more onshore cash to have the same overall total worth as the company with the hotel.

Let me put this into some numbers, just incase this still isn't making any sense. Say the company with the hotel has £1mil onshore, and the company with the renovated offices also has £1mil onshore. The company that has the hotel will have the worth of the hotel included in it's total worth, making it's total worth £1,170,000, whilst the company that has the renovated offices will have a total worth of £1,070,000.

Whilst this can probably be ignored for the majority of cases, it should be remembered when assessing "super earners". Super earners are companies that sit on the best plots of land in a location, so as to make the best possible earnings it can. Since these companies have the majority (if not all) of the licences for that location, it is not unusual for a super earner to have a building worth atleast 20mil.

I think if you play around with your own companies, then you will start to get an appreciation of what sort of building worth is associated with what sort of profit. This will allow you to quickly assess a company you want to bomb, to see, roughly, how much onshore cash it has.

NUKES:

Nukes are one of those things that everyone should try at least once. Generally considered very expensive for what they do, they can be very useful if you simply cannot be bothered to move a company somewhere to bomb it, or if a particular place has amazing security.

The nuke costs 20mil to make, you need 5 contributors, and you need a level 4 HQ. It creates a fair bit of damage, including a central square that cannot be built on for 24hour, a sectio outside of this square which is firebombed, and a further sectio outside of this which is cluster bombed. I am not going to explain too much more about the damage done, as it is one of those things that really should be seen to get a full appreciation of it.

To make the nuke, once you've built your level 4 HQ you need to go to the HQ, click on the "dirty tricks" button at the bottom, and there you will be able to make your nuke fund. Whilst the nuke costs 20mil in total any one company donating to it can only donate a maximum of 10mil, and therefore I suggest you always donate to your own nuke fund with atleast 2 companies. Once 5 companies have supported the nuke fund, no more people can contribute to it, and the remaining money must be made up from the companies that have already contributed.

When you have received all the money and contributors for your nuke, then when you go to the HQ and click on the "secret warehouse" button, it will show you as having an armed and dangerous nuke. If you click on that, then it will take you to the launch screen so you can select somewhere to launch it at, and then select where on the map you want it to hit.

The nuke will take 48hours from the time of launch until it lands, and during that time anyone who is in the same location (with a level 4HQ) as you will be able to see that you have recently sent a nuke.

I think thats all you need to know about nukes. Oh yeah - make sure you're online to watch it land, as that is the most fun part!

GETTING A LAND LOAN:

If you want a land loan then you need to earn it.

By far the simplest way to get a land loan is off a friend. Therefore be friendly to people in towns, cities, caps and heights. I bet they wont loan you land if you're rude to them, so if you want a loan be nice!

Keep watch for fires and put them out. If someone is bombed then buy the land, and memo the bombed company and tell them that you are happy to swap the land back whenever they want.

If you do memo the land holders then not only don't be rude, also don't ask for large %'s of land. Try reqesting 10-20 props in exchange for keeping watch for fires ad putting them out. I sggest you make it clear that you will transfer in the maximum amount each day so that you are not sitting on the land for ages!
