Bafta Games Awards
BAFTA will be rolling out the red carpet on Tuesday March 10 at the London Hilton, with host Dara O'Briain, to celebrate the very best games of 2008, and of course, the talented people behind them.
The ballots are closed for GAME's
'Game of the Year' Award 2008, which is the only award to be voted for by the public.
Here are the ten nominees in this category...
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Release Date: 9th Nov 2007
Developer: Treyarch
Publisher: Activision
Formats: X360, PS3, PC & DS
Genre: First Person Shooting
Released at the tail end of 2007, Call of Duty 4 took the WWII series and turned it into one of the best cutting-edge shooters ever, and with the re-released Game of the Year Edition it continued to be one of the most popular titles anywhere in 2008.
Call of Duty 4 brought the WWII franchise into the realm of Modern Warfare with an incredibly polished singleplayer experience, combining superb visuals and sound design with a strong plot, memorable characters and violent, visceral, but varied and very enjoyable gameplay.
Modern Warfare's multiplayer mode meanwhile took things up a notch from other first-person shooters. An in-depth levelling system saw players rewarded for sustained play with new, more powerful weapons, and the perks system presented challenges which they could complete for added benefits. All of which saw CoD4 swiftly become one of the most played games on Xbox Live and Sony's PlayStation Network. Stunning.
