Unhappy Phone line rental

I am on Tiscali Daytime dial up and have BT Basic phone line.
If I upgrade to Tiscali Broadband package with line rental (£14.99 per month) do I still pay BT line rental? I did email Tiscali & their reply was:

" Please note that although our packages include line rental service, you may or may not be able to acquire free line rental depending on its availability within your exchange. "

Help!

If your exchange is set up with Tiscali's own equipment i.e. LLU then their free line rental package is available to you, if not then you still need to pay Tiscali for the line rental but it is at a lower rate than that charged by BT.

In either case you wont get a BT bill after signing up.

My exchange is not LLU'd so I pay around twenty five pounds per month for everything, I'm on the 8 Meg broadband with free 'anytime calls' package which includes free phone call to all UK numbers except the premium rated ones, it also gets for me free calls to the USA and Australia. E.

You can check if your exchange is LLU'd here:

Thanks for your reply. I followed the link and for my telephone exchange - under column OLO - it said LCMLM.
Could you advise what this means?

Just discovered that my exchange does NOT have "LLU operator presence" for Tiscali!
I was looking at Tiscali option 1 - broadband & free weekend calls at £14.99.

... then Tiscali can't/won't give you 'free' line rental since BT will continue to require payment [from you or Tiscali].

Thanks for your very help reply.
I think I'll go for PlusNet Broadband at £11.99 and stay with BT Basic for telephone.

I have tiscali broadband and telephone package with free weekend calls and my monthly bill is approx £18 which includes line rental / broadband / weekday calls. I have not found another supplier which matches this.

Thanks for your reply. I did pose the following question via email to Tiscali:

"I've been advised that I have to check if my exchange is LLU'd - and
discovered it is not for Tiscali.
Can you therefore advise what I would pay for Broadband and Talk?
I assume it will be more than the advertised £14.99 per month.?"

and this is their reply:

"Please be informed that our package of 8Mb Broadband and Free Weekend Talk is £9.99 for the first three months then £14.99 thereafter and 8Mb Broadband and Anytime Talk is £14.99 for the first three months then £19.99 thereafter."

IF that's true(??) then it's a bargain!

I have just had my latest account on line from Tiscali and for the month it is £ 17.90 which covers my broadband / line rental / and weekday calls ( the calls were £ 2.05 ) we do not make many weekday calls.

I have never had any conection issues and no I am not an employee or sales person for Tiscali just a satisfied customer.

I would say give them a try.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply. But Philip (reply above) tells me I won't get free line rental as my telephone exchange does not have "LLU operator presence." I'll email Tiscali again to get the matter cleared up.

Hello ColinR
Just got this reply from Tiscali:
"Furthermore, I would like to inform you that inclusive line rental is not currently available in your area, although we are continuing to roll out exchanges. However, we can still offer you Tiscali discounted line rental at just £10.99 a month."
So it would be around £26 per month for Tiscali Broadband + Talk inm y area.
Plusnet + BT Basic = £16.40 per month!

PLUS BT line rental of £11-£12 per month.

As there are NO LLU operators on your exchange, then you're stuck with IPStream/Datastream broadband product, and therefore stuck with BT's awful DLM

No ... line rental is included within the cost of BT Basic.

BT Basic is £13.20 per quarter -> £4.40 per month
Plusnet Value -> £11.99 per month (non-LLU exchange) [£5.99 for the first three months]

Which comes to £16.39 per month all in.
Jim's arithmetic looks good enough to me!

I keep hearing this a lot, is anyone actually receiving Tiscali's Free Line rental bundled with TTV or TBB ?

I get the feeling that this is just a standard line that gets thrown out to keep old customers paying line rental, or am I just too cynical?!

You can check if your exchange is LLU'd here: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php
Enter your postcode or exchange name to find your exchange, and look at the details on providers with an LLU presence at your exchange. If Tiscali is shown as having an LLU presence, you should be able to get 'free line rental' included in your package; if not ...
