When I was a child, my Mother, often my grand parents, took me to various recs' with swings and roundabouts, well set out play areas were a thing of the future.
My biggest thrill was seeing my Mum watching me play and having the feeling that she was there for me if I needed her. Not so today, it is proposed that parents will not enter play areas to accompany their children while they play....what is going wrong with this country, more so the clowns who have been given the responsibility to run this country?

Hi, I remember being taken to the park recs` just like you, every weekend, usually Sunday on the roundabout, swings and slide then off to feed the ducks with Hide and Seek among the trees and still back in time for tea.
Most kids today dont know how to play and have fun unless its something to do with a plug on one end of it.

I went to the playground yesterday and it was full of parents looking after their children.

I thought the 'ban' was only specific to a specific location where their mayor seems to have made her own rules. I didn't think it was about to become yet another barmy law - though you can never be sure with this particular bunch of 'wotsits in Westminster'.

That Mayor has her own blog and here's a link to her reponse to yesterday's article. I cba studying it in great detail but it seems the 2 playgrounds in question are official after school and w/e 'drop off' adventure playgrounds where the council has responsibility for the kids - something along those lines anyway. Apparently there are many other play areas in the area where the rules about parents don't apply. Pol |

I have 2 young children and most supervised adventure playgrouds and soft play areas we visit do not encourage parents to stay and play, most of the time we just get in the way of the madness. There are always seating areas nearby and we usually natter for an hour. Neither myself and my friends have ever been refused access if we need to go in to comfort our children or haul them out for home time.
As for public parks in my area, they are as they ever were, a parent/guardian supervised play area. There are notices, however, saying you are not allowed to enter the playground without a child and I believe that most parents would challenge someone who did come into the play area alone. I think that the papers have twisted the story into something it's not and if they really are outraged about the policy then it's taken them a long time to cotton on to something that's been happening for at least 5 years as far as I know! So, if a Grand dad wanders past a school and looks to see if he can spot his grand child, he is considered an evil pervert and liable to be beaten to death by a mob of hysterical women armed with clubs.
Is that the case?

Is the Grandfather estranged from the family? Would the grandchild or carer not recongnise him? If so, perhaps a surprise visit to a park is not a good idea for many reasons!

I did read that you wrote school but believed we were discussing parks (?) Have you given up on this subject as the band wagon you jumped on broke its wheel??
School is another matter completely. My sons school is locked down between drop off and pick up and the only way in is through reception where you have to identify yourself before being buzzed in. Too much?? Maybe you should ask those people who have lost children through individuals that have previously wandered into school with knives and such. Not so ridiculous to me and my family. As for someone walking past a school and looking in, how nice that they should take an interest in their local community! You can look all you want but you are not getting in! Do you actually know any facts about security in schools, adventure playgrounds, parks etc or are you going on what you read in the paper and the feelings that are generated from these half-ass'd articles? To quote yourself 'Is that the best you can do? Did you actually read my post?'
You are good at trying to change the subject when someone else seems to know just a little bit more about it than you. And no, I am not feminist. If I were though, I would not feel the need to justify it to you. Vx |
