Fagathon
Some young new neighbours have moved in next to my daughter. They have been assaulted with loud booming music and the smell of smoke getting into their house when the neighbours are having a "fagathon" although all doors and windows are shut. They have wooden floors though and I wonder if the smoke drifts under the floorboards and up through the wooden floor. I've suggested they put carpet down but another relative had a similar problem and she had carpet fitted up to the wall and thought it must come through the wainscot Smoke can't get through walls can it?

Yes if the walls are old and not properly maintained. There will be a leak somewhere.

The smell can travel next door.
I used to think my old house was haunted because I could smell cigar smoke upstairs, then I discovered the guy next door was a cigar smoker. Shallow dishes filled with white distilled vinegar placed in the affected rooms help eliminate smoke odours.
