Default Down Pipes!

hi. can anyone tell me how to stop an annoying occurance of a down pipe from coming detached from it's joint. when it rains heavly causing a water fall 'Niagra Falls' would be proud of ? we keep having to shove it back onto the other joint again. but as soon as it's windy or heavy rain. it knocks it out again.. could we seal it with some sort of weather selant, or glue it on!?
thanks for any replies. xx

Evening SS Regarding your downpipe.
I had the same trouble a while back with mine.
In my case the ruddy thing was partialy blocked at the bottom.
Never happened again after I poked it out.
Cheers M

sunnysandy,

It could be one of several things!

The most likely would be Max7 suggestion, i.e. it's blocked and the pressure of the water is forcing the joints apart, which means it needs unblocking from the bottom, or else you need more brackets to keep the pipe in place against the wall near the joint!

It's also worth checking that there's enough of the 'top' section fitting into the 'bottom section, as if there's a slight 'slippage' of the bottom section of the pipe to the ground it means it will pop out very easely at the joint!

In most cases of this nature it is usually a blockage in the lower part of the Down-spout and the rain water builds up then is forced out at its weekest point being the joints.

Or the Spout-Head which collects water from roof areas gets blocked.

Another disadvantage is a tiled roof after a dry spell tiled roofs collect a lot of dust then it rains and all the collected particles are washed down the pipes.
And creates a blockage.

If the clips seem tight and plentiful, try Erics suggestion. However, this time of year I would urge you to remedy it as quickly as possible.
If there is any ammount of water running down the exterior walls, it will penetrate any minute cracks in render or brick/stone joints and lie there for some time. As soon as a frost hits, it can freeze and therefore expand and cause all sorts of damage - Damage which may not become apparent for a few years.
