Halloween make-up

Halloween make-up
It needn't cost a fortune to look like the living dead. You can find most of the ingredients to make a convincing wound or bruise at home. Take a look at these gruesome solutions and see how easy it is.

Vampire make-up tips

Become a Vampire
A vampire's skin should have a pale, slightly ashen look with dark, sunken eyes and frightening eyebrows - not to mention a pair of fake fangs. Here's how to create a convincing look to frighten all the family...

You will need:
White face paint or light (preferably white) face powder (or find out how to make your own)
Black eyebrow pencil
Dark grey eyeshadow
Red lipstick or lip-liner
Make-up brush

1. Moisturise your skin.
2. Apply a thick layer of white face paint or light coloured face powder to all exposed skin - face, neck, hands until you they are completely covered and well blended. You're aiming for a slightly gaunt look, but not emaciated.
3. Lightly apply grey eyeshadow or dark blusher under the cheek bones and temples to give a darker, sunken appearance. Use a medium sized brush to blend these into very subtle shadows.
4. The eyes are extremely important. Apply black face paint or very dark eye shadow to the upper and lower lids. It should be applied darker close to the eyelashes and in the hollows around the eyeball. You can press gently with your finger and you will feel the hollow in the skull in which the eyeball rests. Your shadowing should not go beyond it and the outer edges of the shadow should gradient from darker to lighter until they blend softly into the pale flesh colour.
5. The sinister look of a vampire's eyebrows is essential to the look. Using a black eyebrow pencil with a sharp edge begin adding very small hair-like lines on the skin in the same direction that the eyebrows grow. For maximum effect the top of the eyebrows should have a diabolical upward slant.
6. For the finishing touch paint on a few drops of blood running down from the corner of your mouth using a red lip-liner or lipstick.
7. If you have used face paints apply light coloured powder over your makeup. It's important to pat the powder on, if you rub it, it will smear. The powder will absorb the face paint and set it, so apply as much as needed and gently brush off the excess with a large, soft powder brush.

TIP: Wash off with warm soapy water.

Zombie make-up tips

Zombie's are normally a grey/blue colour although green can be added for more of a mouldy and rotted look as can brown. First of all, moisturise your face and any parts of the body you intend to put make up on.

What you will need
Small sponge
Small paint brush
Grey, blue and green make up (Depending on the look you wish to achieve)
Fake blood
Fake skin (Or the cheaper option - Copydex and tissue paper)

1. Moisturise your skin.
2. Apply a layer of grey face paint, dabbing it on with a sponge. Be careful to avoid contact with the eyes.
3.
Depending on the effect you want to achieve, add dabs of green, brown and blue, but don't overdo it.
4. Darken under and around the eyes to get a sunken feature in this area.
5. Using a small paint brush, draw some lines on the face in a downwards direction to create a veiny look, but again, don't overdo it.
6. If you want peeling skin and scars, gently apply a layer of fake skin and mould it into your chosen abrasion. (TIP) Use copydex and tissue to create the same effect.
7. Apply small drops of blood to wounds and scars. (TIP) To thicken the blood so it looks congealed, add instant coffee power to it.

. TIP: Red food dye stains clothes, furniture and carpets!

Witch make-up tips

Witches normally have a dark green tinge although as we've never actually met a real one, we're just guessing here. Creating this look is quite easy, but the end product looks really scary.

What you will need
Small sponge
Small paintbrush
Green make up
Black make up
Fake skin (Or the cheaper option - Copydex and tissue paper)
Rice crispies

1. Moisturise your skin.
2. Apply a layer of green face paint, dabbing it on with a sponge. Be careful to avoid contact with the eyes.
3. Darken under the eyes with black face paint and also on the lips.
4. Using a small paint brush, draw some lines on the face, accentuating wrinkles around the eyes, cheeks and the mouth.
5. Mix copydex with tissue paper and while it's still slightly wet, build this on to your nose to create that scary witches nose effect. You can also use the copydex as glue to stick the nose onto your face. Use as much or as little as you wish to create the chosen size and shape. Use green face paint to colour the nose.
6. Paint the rice crispies green or black to create warts and sores that can be stuck on with copydex.

TIP: Test a small area of skin before using any of the products featured above.

Fake blood

Fake blood
For less than &pound1, you can make a bottle of fake blood by simply mixing half a bottle of red food dye with a bottle of glycerin.
