Tearful Rachel makes X Factor exit

Tearful Rachel makes X Factor exit

05/11/2009 13:27

Rachel Adedeji couldn't make it third time lucky as she bowed out of The X Factor.

After finding herself in the bottom two with Lloyd Daniels, the wannabe diva sang for survival with her version of the Oasis hit Stop Crying Your Heart Out.

But it was Rachel who ended up in tears when, after the judges sent the show into deadlock, she found out she had the least number of votes from the public and was going home.

The judges seemed surprised by her inclusion in the bottom two after they had been impressed with her performance during Rock Week.

She sang the U2/Mary J Blige version of One, which Louis Walsh described as "an incredible song choice".

He added: "I didn't think it was a good idea on paper, but you made it your own. It was emotional, soulful; in fact I thought it was the most emotional performance of the night."

Cheryl Cole agreed: "It was a very, very clever song choice because Mary J Blige did it, and you got to show the soul in your voice. I think yours is my favourite voice out of all the girls."

Simon Cowell said of her performance: "I liked the last third of the song. Where I had a slight issue, was by Dannii trying to turn you into her with the hair and the dress..."

Dannii Minogue interrupted: "She tried to get it like yours but there wasn't enough hairspray."

Simon laughed, adding: "I walked into that! I just felt that your whole look and therefore presentation made that song a bit cabaret."

But Rachel's mentor Dannii disagreed: "It was an amazing performance. It was great because you just allowed yourself to be vulnerable and it reminded me of when I saw you at the Judges' Houses, you just sang, it was just about your voice."

But the viewers did not agree, and Rachel found herself in the bottom two.

Dannii admitted she was shocked: "I'm quite lost for words. I thought she was one of the best singers in the competition and one of the best performers on the night."

She was up against Welsh youngster Lloyd, who had such a sore throat that he could barely talk, never mind sing his song choice of Joe Cocker's You Are So Beautiful.

After their performances, Dannii and Louis both voted to save Rachel, while Cheryl backed her boy Lloyd. Simon said that because Lloyd was unable to give his best showing and because Rachel was in the bottom two for the third time, he thought it was only fair to let the public decide.

On hearing that she would be going home, Rachel said: "I just want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me. I got to work with some amazing people."

Dannii still couldn't understand her lack of popularity, saying: "Everyone who came to work on the show and who was mentoring the contestants loved Rachel, and I'll be banging my head against the wall tonight."
