Uruguay 1930
In 1928 FIFA decided to launch a tournament open to every single one of it's member countries.
The first ever World Cup kicked off in the summer of 1930.
Held in Uruguay, and with only 13 countries, England were ineligible as they had withdrawn from FIFA over a dispute about payments.
Host nation Urugruay won the final 4-2 against Argentina and the ref turned up in jacket and tie.
