Jubilee celebrations - London events
If you're not having tea with the Queen this Golden Jubilee weekend, 1-4 June 2002, here's what you could be doing instead. Also, click here for free things to do in London over the Jubilee weekend.
Sat 1 June: Classical concert in Buckingham Palace Gardens - broadcast live at 2.00
Sunday 2 June: Jubilee church services and bell ringing across the UK during the day.
Monday 3 June: Gun Salute, Hyde Park at 12.00
and a musical concert in Buckingham Palace Gardens in the evening starting at 2000. The lighting of the national Beacon will take place on the Mall at 2230.
Tuesday 4 June: The Royal procession starts around midday. The Queen and other Royal family travel to St. Paul's via the Strand and Fleet street. There will be two gun salutes, one in Hyde Park and one in the Tower of London with a National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Pauls. The Procession will then move on to the Guildhall for lunch before the Queen's return journey to The Mall.
The Buckingham Palace balcony appearance will take place at 1800. All main events on Monday and Tuesday can be seen from large screens in St. James's Park and Green Park.
Tickets for Buckingham Palace concerts are already allocated and are not for sale on the day.
The most magnificent part of the celebrations will be the Beacon Lighting and Fireworks. The largest ever chain of beacons to be lit for a Royal or any other celebration in modern times wil be lit for The Queen's Golden Jubilee on the evening of Monday 3rd June.
The UK, Channel Islands, Commonwealth and 17 other countries around world will light over 1600 beacons. The Millennium Flame will be used to light the last beacon on the Mall. The entire display will last for fifteen minutes and you will be able to see it from screens in Green Park, The Mall, Trafalgar Square and Hyde Park.
