LONDON (Reuters) - Action adventure Sahara, which fills the big screen with a rugged Matthew McConaughey romping around West African dunes, whipped up a desert storm at the box office at the weekend.
The film took 1.37 million pounds -- much more than its nearest competitor, the U.S. remake of cult Japanese horror flick "The Ring 2", which took 966,000 pounds, according to Screen International on Tuesday.
Cheery wartime animation "Valiant" jumped two places to third, taking 907,000 pounds over the weekend, while another animation, "Robots", stayed in fourth position, taking 846,000 pounds.
Will Smith rom-com Hitch moved down three places to sixth while Miss Congeniality 2, reintroducing Sandra Bullock as a blooper-prone FBI agent, lost one place to seventh.

Gothic romp Constantine also lost one spot to eighth, while the Bruce Willis movie "Hostage", which features the battered actor in yet another hostage situation, fell one to ninth.
Downfall, the extraordinary German-language tale of Hitler’s last days in his Berlin bunker, fell one place to 10th, taking 162,000 pounds at the box office at the weekend.
