Wedding Daze review

Viewers will certainly be in a daze when watching this misfiring comedy and are likely to question why on earth they spent their hard-earned cash on such an unfunny effort.

First time director Michael Ian Black makes a mess of his own script in which former American Pie star Jason Biggs plays Anderson who, at the beginning of the film goes against his best friend's advice and dresses up as Cupid to propose to his girlfriend in a fancy restaurant. When she collapses and dies of shock upon seeing him, he spends a year in mourning.

One year later, he goes against the same friend's advice and impetuously asks a watiress who happens to be serving him at that moment to marry him. Facing a potentially sterile marriage of her own, Katie (Isla Fisher) accepts: the two crazy young things move in together in an attempt to presumably find some comedy from a situation that was never than amusing, or indeed interesting, to begin with.

I don't ever remember being to the screening of a 'comedy' when noone laughed for the duration, so in that respect Wedding Daze is something of a first. Filled with unlikely situations and kooky characters - a retinue of odd parents and friends who singularly fail to raise any cheer - the languid pauses after each alleged joke become laughter-free voids.

Biggs was once on the up and even had the lead role in a Woody Allen film after his most famous success. Here he is reduced to struggling with a character that is pale by even his own previously unchallenging standards. The best that can be said for Fisher is that she gamely battles on with a script that can only be described as leaden. To be avoided.
