Special Offers - Tiscali Christmas

MUST SEE MOVIES OF 2004
Tiscali has handpicked the Top Ten movies for you to see in the first few months of next year, and we've even managed to review some of them already:

1. DOGVILLE
Release Date: Feb 6
Nicole Kidman continues to seek out challenging roles in this scabrous new film from Lars Von Trier (The Idiots, Breaking the Waves), which caused outrage and rapture in equal measures at its Cannes premiere this year. Shot entirely on a sound stage with furniture being invented by the actors, its three-hour running time and anti-American views have already made it the most anticipated film of the year
2. 21 GRAMS
Release Date: March 5
Alejandro Innarittu's follow-up to Amores Perros has had even more of a warm reception from critics than his debut film and has been the toast of every festival it has been shown at. Already in the running for Oscar glory (particularly for stars Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro).
3. LOST IN TRANSLATION
Sophia Coppola proves she is more than capable of following in her Daddy's footsteps with this superior follow-up to The Virgin Suicides. Unlike the opulence of her father's work, however, her style is much more contemplative and sly, and she has brought out one of the performances of the year from Bill Murray. More...

4. THE LAST SAMURAI
Release Date: Jan 9
The first blockbuster of the year sees Tom Cruise take Kill Bill back a hundred years to feudal Japan. Expect action, glory, honour and love to feature strongly, but the advance word says that it may have more brains than the average megapic.

5. KILL BILL VOLUME TWO
Release Date: Feb 20
After whetting our appetites so gloriously with the eye-popping first instalment, Tarantino will tell us the full story in this hugely anticipated sequel. The big question is whether Jonathan Ross will don the yellow tracksuit once again.
6. THE STATION AGENT
Release Date: March 26
A film that will charm everyone who sees it and is one of the sleeper hits of the year in America. A gentle comedy about an unlikely friendship between three very different characters, it avoided the Sundance curse by winning there and going on to be a favourite around the world. A must-see if you are in the mood to be cheered up.

7. A MIGHTY WIND
Release Date: Jan 16
Christopher Guest returns with the deadpan documentary about folk music that the world has been waiting for. Continuing his wickedly parodic style that won worldwide acclaim in Best in Show the targets are once again spot on and you have to remind yourself that it is not actually real.

8. SCHOOL OF ROCK
Release Date: Jan 9
Jack Black stars as a High School teacher who decides to educate his kids in the ways of Hendrix and Zeppelin. This low-budget comedy has been one of the surprise hits of the year in the US where critics are calling it a kids' film that adults are enjoying even more.

9. GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING
Release Date: Jan 16
An intricate and compelling account of the origin of a single Vermeer painting. It's a fascinating if unlikely story and a triumphant adaptation of Tracy Chevalier's best-selling book of the same name.

10. KITCHEN STORIES
Release Date: Jan 2
This gentle and understated Norwegian comedy, about a study of men's domestic behaviour in the 1950s, is one of the year's quietly spoken charms, and could make an impact if it is rewarded come Oscar time.
