Leading British actors, directors and musicians turned out to show their support to the cream of the country's up-and-coming film-makers as they were honoured on Monday 4th June at the 2nd annual CobraVision Awards at the home of film, the British Film Institute on London's Southbank.
The evening was hosted by Channel 4's June Sarpong and Love Actually star Martin Freeman, who were joined by a plethora of top film industry names, including Oscar-nominated actress Brenda Blethyn (Pride & Prejudice); Iain Softley, director of K-PAX, The Skeleton Key and Hackers; actor Ian Hart (Finding Neverland, Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone); actor Danny Dyer (The Business, Human Traffic, The Football Factory, Outlaws, Severance); actor Jimi Mistry (Blood Diamond, The Guru) and singer Nate James.
These 20 films were showcased at the ceremony with commentaries from the top 10 filmmakers about their films as well as interviews and insights from British film talent and industry experts.
The CobraVision 2007 winners are:
1st Place - Doodled, directed by Sam Rogers (Bristol)
2nd Place - The Art of Queuing, directed by Ed McGown (London)
3rd Place - Sunday Morning, directed by Jake Thomas (London)
Best International Film - The Relay, directed by David Reich (Germany)
A first in British television advertising history, CobraVision gives aspiring film-makers the chance to have their short films showcased on national television during Cobra Beer's sponsorship of ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4's movies. CobraVision is also the world's shortest and arguably most innovative film competition, and the first ever awards event has provided an opportunity to celebrate the undoubted talents of up-and-coming directors in the UK.
