Biography: All About Denzel
Denzel Washington only switched from journalism to acting when he realised his natural brooding intensity translated so well onstage. From then on he proved a success at everything he tried. There was triumph on the New York stage, on TV in St Elsewhere, then on screen as Steve Biko in Cry Freedom, as well as in the likes of Glory, Malcolm X, The Hurricane and Training Day. He's the only black actor to've won two Oscars, and he could easily have had more, as the list below shows.
