Daniel cool about Oscar chances Daniel cool about Oscar chances

10/02/2008

Daniel Day-Lewis said his Best Actor Bafta win was "a beautiful thing" adding: "It's my town.

"I don't have a trophy cabinet so I don't know what position this will go in yet. Anything that reminds me of the past I believe should be out of sight so they are (his trophies) all kept with someone else."

He said there was no reason why this award would mean he was now more likely to win an Oscar later this month, and added: "It didn't occur to me when I was doing the film that it would be a film that a lot of people would want to see... I thought we'd be put in a home for the criminally insane."

Best director Joel Coen said his Bafta would go in the "ego corner" in the office he shares with his brother and went on: "We have made movies for many years, many of which got a warmer reception in the UK and Europe than in America.

"For that reason and many others this is very special to us. We worked with lots and lots of British crew and this belongs to them as well."

Matt Greenhalgh, the writer of Ian Curtis biopic film Control, said he was "30 pages into a script about John Lennon and The Beatles" adding: "There's so much drama in there."

Tilda Swinton said of her Supporting Actress win for the film Michael Clayton, which starred and was produced by George Clooney: "I am really delighted.

"It's such a good thing that the people and the studio who put money into films know that this is what audiences are prepared to put up with, something with a bit of intelligence; George Clooney being a bit rough around the edges."
