Birth Date: May 14, 1969

Best Known For: Her regal roles as Elizabeth I in the 1998 movie Elizabeth and Elf Queen Galadriel in Pete Jackson's The Lord Of The Rings trilogy

Early Life: Cate's drama teacher urged housemate and actor Geoffrey Rush, to come see this "astonishing young woman". From there, her career has snowballed.

Career High: Winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2005 for playing Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator.

Don't Mention: Cate received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her performance in Elizabeth but lost out to Gwyneth Paltrow.

Her first major role was when she was 10, in a TV movie called Pit Pony, but her big break came in 2005, when she was cast in the movie Hard Candy.

Career High: Being nominated for an Oscar for her role

Don't Mention: Hair. Ellen apparently had to shave off all her hair for 2005 film Mouth To Mouth.
