Concern for my brother

This may sounds initially a minor problem, but my youngest brother, whom i am close with, is soon to be leaving home to pursue a high risk post in the emergency services. I am happy for him that he is pursuing his dreams, but I am so upset and will miss him so much. He is one of the best people I have ever met, and I imagine that I will be so worried about him. Thank you.

Whenever a member of a close knit family steps out into the great beyond we worry that's part of life because we love them and want to protect them. You obviously are from a very loving and caring family and that shows through your level of fear for him. He will always have the knowledge of that love and feel the warmth of that feeling in everything he has to do. Your worries will soon lessen and one day that feeling will give way to great pride.

my son is a policeman and I know where you are coming from .What he says to me is that the training they have and the camoraderie of they work mates in who they put their trust lessons the risks . There will always be risks, but it is what he has choosen, respect his wishes and be there if he needs to talk about anything. Don't worry, its a waste of energy just love him and like I said respect his wishes

Having been in a similar situation a few years back (I was the younger one & who was leaving), my brother & I with a few friends went out to celebrate. At the end of the night & alone with my brother, words led to fisticuffs at the "damage" I was doing by leaving. Anyway, I went & on next holiday, everything was ok. no damage, no bad relations & indeed closer. We all act react in different ways so grin & bear it & for goodness sake wish him well.... regards.

It's a very hard thing to do, I have several friends that are starting careers in the Army, and face all the risks of that. You have to realise that it is a fantastic opportunity for him, no day will be the same and that he will be very highly trained to deal with things that most people would not be able to. It is very difficult to watch them leave, knowing they may not come back but you must understand that this is what they want and it is a rewarding and fulfilling career. Good luck.
