Hardly anyone knows there is an unfinished tunnel running deep under the Atlantic, linking London with New York. This amazing feat of engineering was the brainchild of Alexander Stanhope St George and was started over a century ago.
The engineer's great-grandson, Paul St George, recently located the tunnel's location and discovered plans for an invention called the Telectroscope, a device designed to allow people on one of the world to see right through the tunnel to the other end. Alexander has now built a pair of Telectroscopes and is opening them to the public from 22 May to 15 June 2008.
This unique project is sponsored by Tiscali UK. Neal McCleave, Managing Director of Media Services at Tiscali says: "We are delighted to support Artichoke and Paul St George in this miraculous feat of silent communication. Tiscali strives to create a sense of adventure in the world of communications, and this project seemed to us to perfectly symbolise that same sense of adventure, being rooted in an age when engineering and technology were in their infancy."

Hoax though it is, I'm still going to pay a visit to the London end of the scope in the next few days.
Best of luck to all those involved.
