Super rich list

According to the Sunday Times' 2008 Rich List, Britain's billionaires have never had it so good, adding £58billion to their wealth over the last year to reach a combined worth of £413billion.

How do you feel about the super rich? Should they be forced to give up most of their wealth to aid the poor?

The rich have thier own set of problems, because they forget the best things in life are free, good health, true friends, freedom to express etc. The happiest people i know are the poorest, but richer in other ways. The more you have the more you become a slave to sustaining the material possessions you own and the aquisition of more, its a viscious circle.

It is interesting to hear about the extreme efforts of government to catch benefit cheats and clamp down on tax dodgers on lower and middle incomes, while at the same time they do not want to frighten off the super-rich by asking them to pay any tax. We will not even mention the 10p tax fiasco.

Oh for a Labour government!

iv never been greedy and just kept monny in the bank if iv got it and some one asks for a bit i give it but if you could ask the filfy rich thay would sa no go and work for it your self so i think that the rich should have it taken of them and given to the people that realy need it

Fair point Phill, but footballers and the like will continue to earn millions all the time people want to pay out to watch them. I can't see how capping anyones earnings is the answer though and a better solution is required.

I am sick to death hearing about these super rich prats like the obscenely payed footballers and the wives who go round as though they are gods and flaunt themselves to the public thinking we adore them, when most of the time we detest them for what they represent and thats nothing.
We have the lifeboat men and the Air ambulance crews who risk there lives to save others, who by the way survive on charities and donations to exist, if these rich morons donated just the interest on one million of there money a month it would sustain these well deserved and needed services for life,but sadly that will never happen because they are to wrapped up in there own vanity and money that will be in there bank accounts long after they have gone.

I've yet to see a non-profit making organisation the majority of charities pay super fees to their people and give very generous expenses (nearly as much as MP's. Everybody assumes the list is about pop stars and footballers, however the majority sit on their arses in the city making money when a recession hits (like now). This useless government is too busy looking after themselves to give a monkeys or too stupid to be able to prevent the corruption that abounds.

It's ridiculous, people having so much money they could never spend in a hundred lifetimes. Surely they should be forced to invest in third world countries, non profit making organisations and the like.
