Name and shame?

Named and shamed?
We often learn on the news or read in the papers that someone cannot be named for legal reasons. It would appear that anyone under the age of 18 is protected from being named and shamed, even if they've committed a terrible crime, protecting them from the glare of the media. Is this right or wrong?

What Do You Think?

Should people under the age of 18 be named and shamed if convicted of committing an offence?

a crime is a crime until these silly liberals stop beleiving that the victim is the guilty party and not the poor sod who got done over then crime will never be beaten, hang draw and quarter them, unless we take on sharia law and chopp hands off etc, which is probabnly more merciful, also you wouldnt to make many examples before the truth sets in that crime has a price

The majority of under 18's who have commited crimes will most likly do in again and the seriousness will slowly escalate so I think name them now and stop shoplifting become murder!

For a first offence - no. For a second offence - no. For a third offence - yes. As for those under 18 - no. Why should a 'child' be penalised by adult standards? This is a vengeful and rather nasty approach - the sort that ended up in hanging and beheading innocents.

Name and Shame? You are joking, aren`t you? People feeling shame went out with the Ark. I`ve always felt it`s a bit of a contradiction anyway: Any person who is likely to feel ashamed of their actions is not someone who would do wrong in the first place. I`ve witnessed many on our television screens who have no shame and positively relish in the attention they get. Bob

If they are old enough to commit a crime, they are old enough to suffer the consequences, including have their names and pictures in the media!

Pauline says:
It all depends on the crime and whether they're found guilty or not. I don't think anyone should be named until after the verdict on their trial. If a kid is arrested for shoplifting, it's not so bad, but if it's rape or murder then yes, they should be named.
