
Research for campaign group the Fawcett Society showed that childbirth marked the start of a "great divide" on earnings, which continued even after children left home.
Before becoming parents, men and women were equally likely to be employed but, after having children, 57% of mothers of under fives were in paid work, compared with 90% of fathers.
Mothers working full-time suffered a pay "penalty", while pregnant women were vulnerable to discrimination, according to the report.

I am a skilled engineer,2 kids,wife and 50hour week, Yes we got by on low wages but my Holiday pay had to go to pay bills ie; Council tax,Gas,Electric & Water rates all comming in at the same time then juggle the Mortgage.
Now I am 62 Kids grown up and gone,Wife working on low pay [Has to work now till 65] and I have been unemployed for 12 years without any benifits because I planned for the FUTURE, Kid's at School are paid £60 to stay on,I get £0-00p just pension credit.
Good luck to the people who can screw the system the FUTURE IS BARE, and to the MEN who are on their own at 50+ with a paid for house, charm a few girls to get pregnant to you,live with you and you will soon be well off on benifits.
