Ken Livingstone, Boris Johnson and Brian Paddick were the three main contenders in the London mayoral elections with Boris Johnson winning the vote to become Mayor. Do you live in London and did you vote on May 1st? Share your views.
Boris is just the kind of personality London needs for Mayor, and good luck to him. He is as mad as a hatter and a light-hearted soul. However, I don't think he is a push-over. So fellow Londoners, don't think you have an idiot in control, because you might just get a shock. Good luck Boris.

In reply to James comments re voting, I didn't vote as there was no one I wanted to vote for. I looked at all of the candidates and none of them impressed me enough to give them my vote.

Also woodford would love you to name the 5000 ethnic groups you qoute. seeing as there are only approx 195 countries on the whole planet approx (depending on your source) are you actually terrified about venusian or martains coming here purely to use the NHS or claim benefits. By the way I am from no Minority background and as My family have been In england since Roman times at least are probabaly considerably more British than you are!!!

Firstly in rebutal to Tony's comment about council tax increases being in Tory run councils. They are going up (unfairly I concur) In all councils not because of Bad councils (although there are many of them)but because of woeful underfunding for local services from Central Government.
Also in response to Cllr Woodford, you do not tell us which inbred hick , fox hunting , grass chewing , moron populated cesspit of the countryside you are from. I assume this is so that free thinking people (i.e non Sun & daily Mail readers)don't find out where you are and ave' arselves a lynching oh arr! You hate mongerer. By the side 'great way to show your tolerence'

Cllr Jack Woodford says:
With regard to the fact that only 2 million people out of a total population of 8million bothered to vote, shows the apathy that is prevelant in 'urban Britain'....in my own election last year my ward had over 70% turn out and I achieved nearly 60& of the vote....I'am an Independent District Councillor....yesterday I was on a protest march with other rural residents to protest against a huge planned lorry park, and waste disposal plant...we had over 550 people on the march....I also note that a certain 'Simon Wooley' of Operation Black Vote is wingeing on about how so many Black, Asian, and other 'ethnic' groups are in dire poverty, I'am not sure if Wooley is black, but there about 5,000 'ethnic groups' waiting in Calais each night, to cross over the Channel and 'join' his supposedly 'poor and deprived groups' and many millions more in Africa, Asia, etc, etc,...may I suggest if they really want to experience poverty they emigrate to Zimbabwe, Malawi,Darfur..all run by Black Men, and he Wooley stops bleating on about how hard done by they are....

Interesting that in a city with a population of around 8 million people, that only about 2 million voted for the London mayor....do the other 6 million have no opinions? Do they think everything is perfect in this city? Or perhaps they're not entitled to vote for some reason?!!! Perhaps London now has such a transient population, that the majority living here are just here for a few years & don't care about what goes on elsewhere as long as they're ok.
People moan & moan about things in London (me included), but don't do anything to change things. If all those people that didn't think there was any point to voting, voted for someone completely out of the box, then those in power may take notice!
Britain & London especially has turned into a nation of greedy, selfish people, who complain but don't want to have to do anything to make things better....our national motto has become "me me me me me"

I agree with you Tony, but if the true brits want a government that works, they have to get on to them.
We'll soon see how Cameron and Co will fare any better if they get in next time.
We as a nation should not allow ourselelves to be conned, by whoever it is.
Whoever can tackle the fact that more money is coming out of less pockets, to feed an ever growing army of greedy often corrupt public employees, who can retire early whilst we pay for it the better. Is this possible I wonder, but I'm staying quiet no longer for one.
We've a s*** chief exec in Wales where I am from and I'm goint to be on his back like a ton of Bricks.
I've had enough of being conned by the Government.

Lyn, i agree with your comment on the bullsh** we have to listen to from politicians :-). We have just elected someone who is going to make the previous mayor look small in comparison when it comes to bullsh**. Where is the 100 million pounds it is going to cost for the new buses Boris proposed?
Guess the Olympics is not the only big cost for our City Tax payers.
Some people in my area have actually voted because of their council tax going up so much in the last 2 years! blaming the Government. The fact they live in a Tory controlled borough for those 2 years has escaped their notice or intelligence.
If Boris makes a good fist of it then i will hold my hands up to it. The trouble is going to be when the holders of his puppet strings are not at hand when he is asked difficult questions :-(.
As for a Tory Government, remember the boom years of more small business going underground than ever before & the false economy going bang on at least 4 occasions. You can only feed a fat cat so much before the stores run dry....

Why does it take so long to count the votes for the London Mayor. We could have elected a new Prime Minister in less time......Now that's a thought why not go the whole way and have a complete Conservative line up in London. Come on Gordon time to move on

Whoever gets in would be fools if they disregard The Royal Court of Justice findings Tony.
Don't forget the people are watching now, and look at the result.
