Hide cigarettes

Ban displaying cigarettes
Under new government plans, shops could be banned from displaying cigarettes. Plans are also in place to ban vending machines in pubs in a bid to prevent kids from lighting up. Do you think this will help more people kick the habit or is it just another 'pie in the sky' idea from the government?

What Do You Think?

Should shops be banned from displaying cigarettes?

What a load of codswhallop - I did not start smoking because I could see cigarettes behind the counter........ Fortunately for me I gave up the weed 2 years ago and it is now fantastic that the smoking ban came in but this is really taking things too far - I agree with Susie we are now living in a Nanny Society and it has to STOP

John says:
No need to ban vending machines from pubs because local pubs are closing at the rate of six a day since the smoking ban was introduced. The budget increase in alcohol duty will further expedite the pubs demise and soon there wont be any pubs to put vending machines in. The government should make up its mind whether smoking is legal or not and there is no case for hiding a legal product beneath the counter. The government should forego its six billion pound revenue and ban tobacco if it really is as harmful as they would have us believe.

Have the people behind this idea thought about the job loses for the people that manage and fill the cigarette vending machines? I doubt it. Very silly idea and simply adding to the Nanny state we're living in.

what's the point of hiding them under the counter if we know they are there we still going to buy them aren't we, the goverment are pathetic, if they wanted every one to stop smoking then they would ban cigarettes all together, but then they would put loads of people out of work and they would lose money too on taxes.

Removing vending machines from pubs to stop kids buying them is rather stupid. What are kids doing in pubs in the first place? Ban kids from pubs, not cigarette machines. Oh and why we're at it, ban pubs from displaying beer or we'll all end up binge drinking!
