Gas prices

Gas and electricity price rises

Although British gas profits soared by 500 percent last year, energy bills are set to rise by 46%.

Bosses at BG say that wholesale prices for gas have risen by 92 percent and electricity has doubled. BG have already hiked up their prices by 15% this year with Chairman Roger Carr explaining that they have to make a profit. Any increase by BG is likely to be followed by other energy providers.

How will this affect your household budget?

The most important things to peoples lives are food water and fuel, these three items are so critical to every single person on this planet that I strongly believe that globaly the means of production and distribution should be take away from the private sector, whose motivation is at odds with our basics need for security of supply free from economic explotation and greed, and run by governments working together for the common good of it's citizens.

Free markets may be ok for non essential items but the absolute basics to sustain us - no !

There is only so much oil and gas in the ground.
No. More. Is. Being. Made.

What there is is controlled/own by either Arabs, the Russian Mafia or crackpot Nigerians and is being burnt ever faster by little more than blind and stupid lemmings rushing towards a cliff edge.

De-privatise all the Utility Companies.
Nationalise the petrol companies.
Close the doors to imigrants unless they have a job that cannot be fillede by a U.K national.
Shut down the Broo.
IN OTHER WORDS DO WHAT OTHER COUNTRIES ARE DOING.
ONLY PAY THE M.P`S THE NATIONAL AVERAGE
PUT ALL M.P`S IN A SECURE HALLS OF RESIDENCE(THIS WOULD STOP ALL THESE EXCESSIVE LIVING & SECURITY EXPENCES & MAKE THEIR SECURITY EASIER)

Can some one please explain why we, through our taxes, have to pay for so called consumer "watchdogs" who cost £millions to run and do absolutely nothing on behalf of consumers, when these energy bandits hold the country to ransom

Pete says:
These greedy energy companies are an absolute disgrace. They make billions in profit yet prices are still rising. If the government ran these companies then the profits could be of benifit to the whole of the country & not just a few individuals. Its about time the government stepped in & did something about it & also cut the tax on petrol - 63% - its highway robbery.

It's about time this goverment started thinking about the people of Great Britain and putting acap on the price of all the energy companies supplying Oil ,Gas, Electric & Water. The goverment could cut the Tax on fuel and giveing all these immigrants from Poland ,Croiatia & illegal imigrants state hand outs. send them all back to where they come from in lorries / ferries and stop them coming in because their country is in the Common Market

A good question that we need to find the answer to is the effect of a low & rapidly sinking US Dollar value. This should have reduced prices as you get more USD for the pound these days.... so why hasn't energy prices in pounds gone down?

Google's results once correct for the USD change is reported to have been 20% down on last year, makes you think!

not that daft says:
so we pay more if we have a larger carbon footprint.
Fair enough but answer this mr taxman, where the will you buy an ozone layer with all the money you have collected from all the gas guzzling drivers with large heating bills or will it be too late anyway because you spent the money on yourself. So if we all use less fuel to save the planet you will get less tax, so to replace the lost tax you will raise the price to maintain your standard of living. If you were realy serious about saving the planet you would would give free road tax to cleaner vehicles and reduce the price of fuel to low/cleaner users.
Get Real and stop using the enviroment to line your pockets.
