Should the wealthy should pay more tax?

Should the wealthy should pay more tax?
Tracey Emin has threatened to quit Britain due to Gordon Brown's plan to levy a 50% tax on the wealthy.

With the new tax rate due to be introduced in April, those earning over £150,000 per annum would be taxed at 50%.

Emin, 46, said that she is 'very seriously considering leaving Britain', adding 'I'm simply not willing to pay tax at 50%....I reckon it would mean me paying about 65p in every pound with tax, National Insurance and so on'.

Though Emin was also keen to point out that the increased tax bracket was not the only influence in her decision, stating that ‘so much here is simply not working now… the taxes are too high, there aren’t enough incentives to work hard and our politicians have put me off… we’re paying through the nose for everything’

Emin is not the first celebrity to voice her anger at the Government’s plans, Sir Michael Caine has threatened to leave Britain voicing similar concerns and Guy Hands – the financier who owns the EMI label has also recently moved to Guernsey.

Though despite opposition, the Government has argued that the increased tax on the wealthy is fair.

What do you think of Tracey Emin threatening to leave Britain? Do you think that the increased tax on the wealthy is fair? Do you think the wealthy should pay more tax or less tax?

I have never appreciated her 'art'but Tracy has done well here.Like most rich who leave they hold no responsibility to thier country or love it seems.Go Tracy I don't think many will miss you.It would be so much better if you stayed and helped to get this back on the right path.

Will anybody notice when she's gone ? Somebody who lives high off the hog, on the fringes of society, with a "talent" that's relative, and irrelevant. I wish her and her ilk absolutely no harm, but, in the scheme of things, they're of neither use nor ornament.
So, go and enjoy living somewhere where you're of no celebrity value, where you can't speak the local language, and where you've nothing else other to do than get ******, which you've managed to do already quite successfully in "overtaxed" Britain. Yawn !

Tracey is exercising choice. That's fine with me. U.K. will not miss her or others who opt to leave. The lower/middle sectors of U.K. have always funded the Welfare State while the wealthy sector have always found ways out of paying their fair share. The wealthy should pay 50% tax above £150,000. Tax isn't just used to fund schools & hospitals, it's used to fund the army & police. The wealthy want the benefits of living in a safe country but they don't want to fund U.K. security, nor do they want to help their fellow citizens & contribute toward Welfare State costs. The wealthy want to pay low wages, low taxes & low social commitment. Thank goodness the Labour Government are starting to stand up to the wealthy & impose higher taxation on them. It was always assumed that the wealthy would reinvest in the country & promote jobs but reality has shown that the rich merely want to aquire excessive capital & KEEP IT FOR THEMSELVES. Please God don't let conservatives get it next time, they'll kill the lower/middle sectors of the U.K. by avoiding European employment rules, cutting frontline services, putting private sector firms in charge of target orientated incapacity benefit assessments & increasing pension age. I'm O.K. personally but I care about others. I'm voting Labour.

Work? She doesn't have a clue. Slap a bit of crap around and call it art. Anyone who is "caught" by this tax band still has more money to spend than the average Joe can imagine. I bet a Leeds dustman would love to have to pay 50% tax-£18000 a year and the council want to cut it to £12000. Then smirky Osbourne tells him he can work to 66 to pay off the debts those other useless lazy bankers have caused. Emin, just disappear and do us all a favour and take a few more of your ilk with you.

Goodbye Tracy, hear you are thinking of going to France, well 'bon voyage' don't think that many people will miss you, and it isn't that much easier over there either, I should know as half my family live there. Maybe Turkey, but I very much doubt it, The USA, NOW that's the place for you! full of egotistical, no-talent, overpaid prim donnas - IDEAL ! Ciao
