Darwin's 200th anniversary

Darwin's 200th anniversary
Charles Darwin's theories on evolution changed our way of thinking and still continues to provoke debate. How important are Darwin's theories and is it right that we should continue to debate this important piece of scientific thought? What are your thoughts?

Celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the birth of the man whose book "On The Origin of Species" transformed how we see the natural world have captivated fellow scientists, royalty, religious leaders, historians, presidents, conservationists and tourist officials around the world.

Thousands of people have flocked to the biggest exhibition of his work at London's Natural History where the star attractions are two unremarkable stuffed birds lying on a purple velvet cushion in a glass case at the entrance to the show.

The mockingbirds from the Galapagos Islands gave Darwin the first clues to his famous evolutionary theory. He noted that the birds varied slightly from island to island, suggesting that species with a common ancestry evolve over time.

"It's the most important theory in modern biology and the background to all our scientists' work," said the museum's Alex Gaffikin, who helped stage the exhibition.

J. I apologise for the implication that you were lying. I can see you have principles. sorry.

Hi Anonymous, thanks for you comment though I do take exception to you thinking I may be lying! I'm only stating what I've read on various sites and seen on dvds. So if, as you say, something like us should appear at some point in 3.5 billion years, why are we here now?

J, we did not evolve from apes any more than apes evolved from us. We all evolved from a common ancestor. There are lots of truly amazing proteins which direct our bodies to work. Google the Protein Explorer. However, all of them can be traced back to 500 core proteins. What nature does is it randomly edits parts, randomly moves others around, and the new versions that work... their owners get to live and reproduce! No magic. No god. Just simple chemistry and physics. Once the mechanism for evolution comes into being, I put it to you, that something like us should appear at some point in 3.5 billion years is almost a certainty.
And as for your comment that scientists are increasingly turning to intelligent design - you are wrong. You are either misinformed or you are lying. I know many and I am close to the field. I know of no-one.

Ian, when Einstein spoke of "knowing" he was talking about things that there was actual evidence for. You knowing there is a god is just a belief - call it what you want.

Oh and by the way, I suggest you all look up LAMININ, it's a protein that holds our bodies together. The structure of it is amazing - you'll see why when you check it out! Also read the book of Colossians Chapter 1 verses 15-17, written by St. Paul all those years ago in what some of you refer to as that 'out of date' book!

If we did 'evolve' from apes/monkeys then why are said primates still around today? I think if Darwin had the knowledge that we have regarding DNA today, he may never have produced his theory or he would have reached a different conclusion. We are VERY complex beings and there's no way we could have crawled out of any kind of 'primordeal soup' either! Do you think we just happened by chance? Highly UNLIKELY I say. We are designed by a higher power, that power being God Almighty himself. Ah, but 'how can you prove there is a God?' I hear you say, well 'how can you prove there isn't? This is fact - more and more scientists today are on the side of creationism. I don't think 'religion' as some have put it is rammed down our throats enough! If we live by true Biblical Law & the rules ie. the Commandments we would not be in the moral mess etc. that we find ourselves in today. God Bless :-)

I love what Charlie brought to the world, a bit of common sense. It takes evidence to break this case:- THE CREATION OF LIFE.

What shall we believe in, The forever moving forward, evidence based, new and fresh theories of science. OR. The stuck in the past, writen in a book, mystical theories, a load of people came up with thousands of years ago?

Which one kills the most people? I have never heard of any group of people blowing up a building, a plain, a train or slaughtering millions of people in the name of an evolution based movement.

I once had someone tell me that I was a fool for watching walking with dinosaurs. They said that god had put the bones in the ground to test our faith. I could not believe how seriuos this person was. Everything they needed was writen in a little book.
In 2000 years from now, will people believe in Lord Of The Rings because they saw it on DVD?? It must be real!!

Live, Reproduce and Die. Everything in between is up to you.
Stop living in the past and live for the future!!!

By the way, If we were pure perfect souls like God! Why would we want to needlessly suffer death through 'reincarnation'! When all honest persons would admit we have an in-built desire to want to live, never die. To survive catastrophies and serious illness!
THERE IS A GOD!

Chaos no more brings order in our universe than 'evolution' selects a single specie to become more intelligent than any of the others that have existed on earth! To have conscientiousness to question of how or why were are here.
Evolution will NEVER be able answer that because its a theory of foolishness. To mislead many. Since the evolution theory began spreading. the existence of GOD has become questionable. The result, our human moral & spiritual soundness have greatly deteriorated. Because we now think we dont have to answer to anyone more intelligent than us!
Hence, instead evolving. We are devolving! Which is why we are in morally decadent & crime ridden climate we see so prevalent today
