Budget 2008

What do you think Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling should do in this year's Budget? Increase taxes? Spend more on social services? Or is spending out of control? Are you happy with the way the country's being run?

I agree with most, if not all, of the comments left on this blog today. The real question is, "what are we going to go about it". The simple answer is "Vote them out!". The problem is who do we put in their place? Labour stands for big government, taking away virtually all of what little pleasure is left. The Tories are for relatively small government, a sort of 'laissez-faire', but then the less well off suffer. The Liberals... well, who knows?? Is it really any surprise that when such a small propartion of the electorate actually vote, that we are stuck with politicians that really care only about their own existence? This government clearly has little idea of the "right thing to do", perhaps we need some kind of coalition. What am I going to do? I have a 4x4 but I will do all I can to not pay the increasing road tax. Fortunately, I have savings and pensions but I will not be spending that money in Britain. I AM making plans (already fairly advanced) to emigrate. Perhaps this is not a 'British' attitude. But I am tired of supporting a Government that does little or nothing for me.

I have worked hard over the last 32 years to buy my own home, serve my country (in the Armed Forces) for 26 years and then try to educate my children to give them a start in life. Each year since 97, I have seen my quality of life decrease measurably - and my family - who supported me through my career and made many sacrifices. Since 97, everything I have worked for has been eroded by this Government - they have taken away the "free" NHS, imposed parking fees at hospitals, "free" higher education for my children (Note all this Government benefitted!), the priority healthcare for veterans, increased fuel duty eventhough we have no alternative public transport system, allocate themselves allowances for postage when they are caught illegally using the post system, increased their pay above everyone else, subsidised their housing when other public sector and low pay families have had to buy their own and fail to live up to their manifesto promises over referenda. They make thousands of trained military personnel redundant when the forces are understrength and increase the overstretch when it is felt most. Service personnel lack essential equipment and support leading to the best leaving at the first opportunity to ensure that their families can enjoy some measure of quality of life. There is not a sector of life that they have not had a negative impact on the rest oft he community apart from themselves!

I wish it was made clear that pensioners do not get the £250:00 fuel allowance as advertised, it is only a pensioners household, and this makes the increase Just £25.00 each for a husband and his wife.

I voted for big rise in pensions, although I am not a pensioner. In past year pensioners have faced large fuel bills and smaller rises in food. By pensioners getting a rise in basic pensions they get the rise direct.

It seems to me that the government are turning into dictators, No drinking, No smoking, and to top it off they actually have a smoking room in parliament. It seems we have been invaded by polish as well as other imigrants and most of them in our british schools dont speak english,( whats next we all have to learn their language) maybe next budget will add on imigrants need english lessons more TAX.

My wife and I both work, have some savings yet there is nothing in this budget for us. I smoke and like a glass of beer and now will end up paying more, we have no children but parents automatically get more money. I was thinking of buying a new car, unfortunately a 4x4 as we live in the countryside, but that is going to be taxed more and fuel in October. There is nothing in this for us except more taxes. With the massive budgets available to government surely there must now be a time when the majority of government activities should run smoothly and satisfy our needs.

it's about time this government listened to the british people of this country and stopped giving all our hard earned money away to all the imigrants that have flooded into this country. Why can't they see that they are bleeding this country dry and we are getting fed up with it all. We have no rights anymore they can do and say what they want even blow us up but we try to fight back and we are racist!!! where is the justice. Also over the last couple of weeks the price od diesel has been going up by approx 2p per week just this morning hitting 115.9!!!!!! we need to claim our country back.
