Are MP's expenses out of control?

Are MP's expenses out of control?
Political leaders called emergency talks on Tuesday to thrash out a new system of expenses after a scandal over claims for everything from manure to porn films threatened to descend into constitutional crisis.

Commons Speaker Michael Martin, called the hasty meeting in an effort to quieten growing calls for him to resign for his part in the scandal. But political commentators said he would be forced to quit by the weekend.

Brown has called for fundamental reform of the expenses system to try to defuse a scandal that has damaged all the main political parties but is hitting his own Labour Party hardest after 12 years in power.

How do you feel about the current revelations concerning MP's expenses? Is it fair that expenses for MP's are funded by your taxes? Is the current parliamentary expense system out of control?

labour mp frank cook claimed £5 for a donation he made to the offering box at a church service to commemorate the battle of britain ...... how low can someone stoop ? when constituents complained about him claiming £87,729... yes £87,729 of their money to maintain his country estate...conservative....yes , conservative mp anthony steen chided them for being 'jealous' because he had 'avery, very large house'. .... my verdict....total abuse of power and of the constituency in which he resides. sickening........ politicians do nothing but for their own ambition .

If the strength of the £ against the euro drops to an all time low, and still continues to fall, is it the level of poor investment opportunity in overpaid Britain, Bankers syphoning off millions in "well earned" bonus or fraud as I would call it, or even the MP's stealing by claiming falsely but getting away with it because the rule book doesn't say you can not. And who do you complain to about that, is it your MP. Well we are stuffed there once again.
Is Graham Norton (deviant) worth £6m a year, should Paul O'Grady (deviant) host a chat show, with loads of inuendo for our children to swallow whole, and included a mock sex scene with John Barryman this week.
Well we have lost the plot. Let us all be meek and let the white collar thieves take over the country. Now Katie Price, abducted by Aliens for Sex experimentation - oh no, thats next weeks exclusive made up rubbish to be exposed for a few hundred grand sterling, or about 250 euro by then.

I have but a simple answer to the politicians who have ripped of the taxpayer and provide limp excuses about mistakes and what ever. They should all be sacked, lose parliamentary privilege and get prosecuted for their fraudulent actions. Resigning at he end of their term and getting the pension as well seems to be the current scam. Get rid of the lot of them and start a new less corrupt system. The Country will be run by the civil service as usual and when we have a new parliament we can sack the overpaid, underworked, over privileged civil servants as well and get in some proper people to do the job..Corruption breeds corruption,

I see that Camerons chosen one to sort out the expenses scandal Alan Duncan has been at it claiming £63000 in mortgage interest on a property that he had owned outright for more that a decade. I expect his excuss will be that its a mistake. His mistake is taking the voters to be simple. When are we going to see the first court cases and seizures of property to recover these fraudulent claims. These MP's are really the scum of the earth.

I am so pleased to see that that smug git Cameron has been outed, he has also had his snout in the trough with the rest of those crooks. What about Osbourne I see he has flipped his second home to avoid capital gains tax. The more that they protest the more that I am convinced that they are as guilty as h**l. We need to identify those that have broken the law and they must be tried in the UK courts, all moneys gained illegally to be taken back. A list of those honest MP's is needed urgently, how about it Daily Express.

Ron Cantrill says:
This now very public abuse of public money has to be condemned and corrected. However, the behaviou of MPs is not unique and is only drop in the ocean of the wholesale abuse of expenses and tax 'avoidance' that is now endemic at all levels of our society. This attitude that "Anything goes so long as you know how to get away with it." is everywhere in this country leading to a feeling of invulnerabilty at almost ever level where individuals are allowed to make use of the system.

Back to the current subject, I do not believe that changing the system and applying new rules and laws is the answer. What we need is to instill a sense of fair play, respect and responsibility in those who are appointed to positions of trust and responsibility and perhaps this will roll down to the lower levels. Unfortunately, this is something that should be done by example by our "leaders" and few of them now have the integrity to do this.

Furious of Henley says:
Why are the police not prosecuting all these fraudulent MP's and I mean all of them from all parties. Isn't the Inland Revenue interested in what's going on. I resent declaring every single penny I earn, as does the whole nation, so that MP's can live in luxury and cheat all the hard working people in Britain. Millions of people are losing their jobs, hospital waiting lists get longer, prisons are full, schools are in desperate need of basic equipment and maintenance. Pensioners are losing out on interest on their hard earned savings. Gordon Brown and his management of the economy, coupled with unscrupulous Bankers have brought this country to their knees. Why of why is Gordon Brown still in power and as for Chancellor Darling do they not realise just how very angry the whole country is?
