First movie picture with sound is developed by Thomas Edison.
1911
The White Star liner Titanic is launched.
1912
The American pilot Harriet Quimby becomes the first woman to fly the English Channel.
1913
The Titanic sinks after hitting an iceberg.
1914
On 4 August, Britain declares war on Germany, ending four years later with an estimated 15 million human casualties.
1915
German military leaders pioneer the use of poison gas at the Battle of Ypres.
1916
To conserve fuel and light for the war effort, Great Britain introduced daylight saving time.
1917
Russia gives votes to women.
1918
The first granulated soap flakes for laundry are introduced.
First true colour movie is made, Cupid Angling.
