Stephen Fry - Biography

Rate: Stephen Fry is probably best described as a man of many, many talents. He just seems to be a fountain of all knowledge from which we could all do with taking a drink!

Stephen attended Uppingham school and went onto study English at Queen's College in Cambridge.

He met Hugh Laurie during this time and the pair went on to become writing partners, starring in their own show, A Bit Of Fry and Laurie and Blackadder.

A popular 90s drama, Jeeves & Wooster was based on the PG Wodehouse novels and saw Stephen take on the role of the butler with Laurie playing Wooster.

Stephen had a slight run-in with the press when he suddenly disappeared during his role in the stage show Cell Mates. Nobody knew where he was until he re-appeared a few months later somewhere on the continent. And we're not sure if he ever explained himself, either. Hmmm...

Stephen's had a stint as a film actor, too - in particular, Wilde and Peter's Friends. He also sat in the director's chair for Bright Young Things, his 2003 adaptation of the novel Vile Bodies.

One of his most popular projects at the moment is his pretty intellectual quiz show, QI. To be honest we're a little ashamed to say that we haven't actually seen it, although it seems to be doing very well so he's obviously doing something right.

Radio Times readers voted Stephen number one in their 'smartest people on TV' poll. Carol Vorderman must be hopping mad, he pipped her to the post!
